TRAINING COURSE

Improving Fuel Efficiency with Engine Oils - Dr. Ewa A. Bardasz

20-21 September 2018

Improving vehicular fuel efficiency is of paramount importance to the global economy. Governmental regulations, climate change and associated health concerns, as well as the drive towards energy independence, have created a technical need to achieve greater fuel efficiency. This 2-day seminar will highlight the role of lubricants in improving fuel efficiency and provide strategies for selecting the best oil for a given application.

WORKSHOP

Fuel System Deposits, Formation, and Effects

20 September 2018

Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) is used on a variety of current model engines. Fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber under high pressure, rather than spraying fuel under low pressure into the intake ports in the cylinder head. While this increases fuel economy and power, there is a downside that is now becoming apparent as these engines accumulate miles. The problem is carbon deposits building up on the inlet side of the intake valves, creating performance and driveability problems. This symposium will delve into this topic and specifically address global engine test methods, formation mechanisms, analysis of the deposits and other deposit concerns.

Venue

The flagship and landmark amongst all the Heidelberg meeting and convention venues is without doubt the Kongresshaus Stadthalle Heidelberg (Heidelberg Convention Center).

The “front room” of Heidelberg lies in the old town, separated from the Neckar only by the “Uferstraße” promenade. The Kongresshaus Stadthalle Heidelberg as the magnificent building is officially called, has its own underground parking garage, is easy to reach by public transport and is only a short walk away from numerous hotels, Germany’s longest pedestrian zone and many other sights such as the “Alte Brücke” (Old Bridge), the “Philosophenweg” (Philosophers’ Path) and the famous Castle. Events in Heidelberg are rightly considered as “meetings with short routes”. The Kongresshaus Stadthalle is also easy to reach by water: Almost immediately in front of its entrance, the boats of the “Weiße Flotte” and the emission-free solar catamaran “Neckarsonne” beckon to take guests on excursion trips to the breathtaking Neckar Valley.
